INSOMNIA cover reveal!

so this past week my very good friend and fellow YA author j.r. johannson got to reveal the cover for her debut novel INSOMNIA! the cover is creepy and sinister and absolutely perfect for her book. i love the use of colour–the pallidness of the model’s skin against the black background, the bright blue of the eye and jenn’s name, the blood red of the title and series title.

while cover reveals are always exciting because it finally means being able to put a face to a name, they’re especially wonderful when it’s an author you admire and whose work you love. jenn’s also a fellow lucky 13 as well as a thirteener, so this is a big day for all of us! congratulations on your awesome new cover, jenn! INSOMNIA will be published spring/summer of 2013 by flux, so keep an eye out for it!

a couple of links to finish off this post. i was over at writer, writer, pants on fire with friend and fellow YA author mindy mcginnis a few days ago. it was my SHIT post for her blog. and that’s not a typo. SHIT=submission hell–it’s true. thank you for having me, mindy!

and then there’s the oatmeal. the man is comedic genius, anyway, but this particular comic had me in tears. every word of it is so very true, and i really appreciate his being able to perfectly nail the truly crazy thoughts writers really do have all the time. you guys must read it: some thoughts and musings about making things for the web.

thanks for reading!

TRANSPARENT and REBOOT cover reveals!

so these two covers i’m about to go on about? i absolutely fell in love with them as soon as i saw them. i think they are both so unique and fresh and eye-catching. especially for YA covers, which sometimes seem to play it on the safe side due to keeping with trends.

natalie whipple is a fellow friday the thirteener and my good friend, and i was already super excited to read TRANSPARENT, anyway. and now that i’ve seen her amazing cover (no easy feat for her publisher’s design team, considering her teenaged MC is invisible!), the wait for her debut is going to be even harder! i love the vibrant neon colourway the artist chose to use, as well as the cool unfilled title font which ties in so perfectly with TRANSPARENT’s invisibility factor! all of it just meshes so well together, and it’s both vivid and balanced. natalie, huge congratulations on the face they gave your book baby because it. is. awesome!

amy tintera is a fellow lucky 13 as well as a great writer friend. her YA debut REBOOT sounds damn incredible and i’m counting down the days until i can get my hands on it! in the meantime, i’m just going to have to squeal over REBOOT’s incredible cover. so many reasons why i love it–the cold starkness, the classic red and black colour combo, the clever way they pulled down the 178 from the barcode. but the main reason is, i think, how it verges on being a cover you might expect for adult fiction. i’m a big fan of adult fiction covers that have the potential to be timeless, which–for me–usually means something font-driven, without much else in terms of visuals. classy, classy, classy. amy, your cover is fantastic!

TRANSPARENT will be published may 21st, 2013 (harperteen), and REBOOT may 7th, 2013 (harperteen). and whoa, may is my birthday month! i know what i’ll be buying for myself to read!

also, eARCs of DUALED went back up on netgalley and edelweiss yesterday. for all the reviewers and bloggers who have been requesting my book, thank you so much. it’s made the first page of most requested ARCs. i couldn’t believe it. i have no clue how long it’s going to stay that way, but really, really cool. THANK YOU.

BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA cover reveal, and a link round up!

this cover!

so gorgeous, and absolutely perfect for BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA! author april tucholke is a very good friend of mine–as well as a fellow friday the thirteener and lucky–and i couldn’t be more excited to share with you guys the cover for her gothic-inspired YA horror debut.

april, dude, your cover is amazing. i love the unique font and how it’s allllll tall, imposing cliffs leading down to a frothy, painful death. it’s moody, atmospheric, and those two little figures on the top have doom written all over them. many congrats, girl! your cover is fantastic.

also, i came across this plate at an anthropologie shop in new york last spring. at the time i took a pic for april, the title wasn’t set in stone. so happy it didn’t change because it really does fit the story so well! but kind of bummed i didn’t pick up the plate. sorry, april–packing it would have been a pain, though!

BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA will be published august 15th, 2013, by dial/penguin. make sure to mark the date–it’s an awesome book!

now for some links!

so in my last blog post i talked about DUALED ARCs being at new york comic con and shared some forwarded pics. my fellow twitterer-and-OOR-tumblrer traci of the reading geek blog posted a super sweet recap of the weekend! traci, thanks so much!

i’m one of the authors taking part in the dreaded elevator pitch over at gate crashers this week. all i can say is the word “dreaded” is pretty accurate. pitches are hard. and thank you, pam witte, for having us on the blog!

lisa was a great host over at a life bound by books last week when she had me stop by. as well, megan was super nice to interview me over at the book galaxy. thanks, lisa and megan! there’s assorted giveaways at both, so be sure to check out their sites as soon as you get the chance.

if you find me cover reveal and link round up

i’m so happy to be able to share the cover for if you find me by emily murdoch! it’s a very intense read, with the perfect intense cover to match it. em’s not only a fellow lucky 13ner, but i originally met her on the absolute write forums when i first started writing. so it’s particularly gratifying to see all her hard work pay off! congrats, em! if you find me comes out april 2013!

some links! i participated in a post over on the amazing ya highway blog, where the lovely kristin halbrook talks about the first sale: expectation vs reality. look for part 2 on the site on tuesday!

as a friday the thirteener, i’m taking part in crits for water, where you can bid on query crits from us in exchange for a donation to a good cause. click here! bidding open until june 29, 6pm est!

well, as you know, the ala (american library association) annual conference took place this past weekend (and i’m sad to say DUALED arcs never made it there, but are absolutely guaranteed to be at ala in seattle in january 2013, so sorry to those bloggers who were on the lookout for it!). a huge issue came up with the distribution of arcs–namely, a couple of greedy bloggers took more than they should have (including duplicates) and then had the stupidity to vlog and brag about their haul. read some truly enlightening articles of the issue at stacked: the arc stops here and reading, writing breathing: bloggers vs librarians?

pivot point cover reveal/ARC requests for dualed

i think it’s about time for yet another cover reveal, don’t you? how’s this gorgeous cover for pivot point by kasie west? i love how you can’t tell if the girls are friends or enemies. and we need more covers with vertical title placements because it’s really refreshing and eye-catching! kasie is a friend, fellow friday the thirteener, and lucky 13, and i couldn’t be happier for her! congrats, kasie! pivot point will be published february 2013, and it’s fantastic, so make sure you pick it up!

also, see that little tab up top? the one that says ARC requests? actually, i’ll even add the form here. yep, random house is now taking requests for DUALED ARCs. so if you’re a book reviewer, a blogger, or librarian, and are interested in reading DUALED, please submit a request! and while i can’t guarantee you’ll be sent an ARC, i promise that my publisher will consider each and every request! and i’m still blown away from all the enthusiasm for DUALED, so thank you so much!

so my first page passes for DUALED are due tomorrow. it’s my last chance for any real edits. then it’s back to drafting DIVIDED, which is due next week. i love summer, but i wouldn’t mind if it rained until my deadlines are up. sun definitely makes it harder to write!

taken and the nightmare affair cover reveals/ARCs at ala!

even more gorgeous covers being revealed this week! this time it’s fellow YA author, friday the thirteener, and lucky 13 erin bowman‘s cover for taken, as well as fellow YA author and  lucky 13 mindee arnett‘s cover for the nightmare affair! what blows me away about both of these fantastic covers is the use of deep, saturated colours throughout the jacket. those art designers did an amazing job! taken will be published in april 2013 and the nightmare affair in march 2013!

also, it’s the american library association (ala) annual conference this weekend in anaheim, ca! it’s where librarians, educators, authors, and publishers all get together and talk books. crowds and booths and tables abound. what’s cool is there will be DUALED ARCs available! i’ve already begged some author and blogger friends to take a pic if they’re spotted!

speaking of ARCs, i should be getting my copies soon, but in the meantime, marketing at random house sent me a pic. you know, just to torture me! they look absolutely incredible and i’m going to cry when i finally hold one!

prophecy and the madman’s daughter cover reveals!

there is nothing better than being able to celebrate with your friends when something fantastic happens. today, fellow YA authors, friday the thirteeners, AND lucky 13s ellen oh and megan shepherd both had cover reveals! ellen’s prophecy and megan’s the madman’s daughter will both be released in january 2013. buy them, read them, enjoy them!

and just look at these covers! they are gorgeous and mind-blowing and i couldn’t be happier for them! plus their books are pretty damn fantastic, too!

blog hopping: i’m over at fellow YA author, friday the thirteener, AND lucky 13 mindy mcginnis’s blog today. we’re hanging out and she gets to ask me questions about DUALED’s cover. come say hi!

DIVIDED: 70K and counting. and my first pass pages for DUALED are due next week. but there is light at the end of the tunnel, you guys, and waiting for me on the other side is summer vacation, a dirty house that needs to be cleaned, and a super massive to be read pile.

random: listening to snow patrol’s run. eating: take out every night for the last week and a half. feeling kind of gross about it.
